Everton Road

H100xW200cm

Acrylic Painting, Silkscreen Printing on Canvas, Silk Fabric Applique

This artwork tells stories from the Blair Plain Conservation area and the surrounding neighbourhood. The focus is on Blair Road, Spottiswoode Park Road and Everton Road as well as the nearby HBD, Everton Court.

Walking distance from the centre of Chinatown, this area has a rich Chinese heritage that is reflected in the architectural details. Green ceramic Chinese roof tiles are shown along the Everton Road Shophouses. A more elaborate version of these is found at the Baba House on Neil Road. Notice the beautiful details of the mosaic phoenix. To the right of this, Chinese lanterns dance on a string , adding a festive feel. Below these the sign board from the famous Ang Ku Kueh shop is found. Different flavours of this local delight are shown in the foreground. The bright colours of the kueh are mimicked in the rich silk of the fabric cut-out dragons. Characteristic to this area ,cheerful Peranakan tiles  form a border around the artwork.
