“Chinoiserie my Love” is inspired by the popular 18th century trend, Chinoiserie. This European interpretation of Chinese aesthetics, romanticised all things from the Far East. Pastel colours with motifs such as pagodas & cherry blossoms were often found on the old French wallpapers. The Singapore Shophouse, which is a fusion of many styles, reminds me of this meeting of East & West. The Chinese Shophouse in this artwork is located at 2 Everton Road, Singapore.
